Park Slope: One-Way No Way!

As someone who lives in Park Slope, between 7th and 8th Avenues, I’m really against the Department Of Transportation’s proposal to make 6th and 7th Avenues one way streets. I like my neighborhood the way it is now and don’t really understand the claim that making those avenues one way will make them safer for pedestrians. If anything, I believe the opposite to be true. One way traffic will mean faster moving vehicles through a residential area, won’t it? How is that safer for pedestrians?

And now there’s speculation that this proposal has to do with the Atlantic Yards project? What a headache that whole development is going to be.

So, what am I going to do about it? Well, for one, I’m planning to attend the Community Board meeting tomorrow and urge anyone else in the area to do the same. Here’s the info:

Thurs. March 15
6:30 PM

Community Board 6 Meeting
New York Methodist Hospital
506 6th Street (7th & 8th Avenues) Auditorium
