Stranger Than Fiction
Directed by Marc Forster
Harold Crick: You don’t understand that this isn’t a story to me, it’s my life! I want to live!
The concept of the film brings to mind the work of Charlie Kaufman — Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind — but, in the end, doesn’t quite reach the same level of oddity and mindfuck tht made those films so interesting. Basically this is a “more Hollywood” version of a Kaufmnesque idea. It’s great to see that Kaufman’s influence has made others take chances on things — even if they would have only truly seemed unique and adventurous ten years ago. Well made, entertaining, and a laudable effort.
