Shattered Glass
Directed by Billy Ray
Chuck Lane: He handed us fiction after fiction and we printed them all as fact because we found him entertaining. It’s indefensible. Don’t you know that?
I hadn’t noticed before how much this film owes to All The President’s Men. The similarities are interesting, and rather significant in the way they set the films up as two bookends to a period of decay. ATPM, of course, is the story of how the press exposed a corruption lurking in our government — perhaps the most shining moment the media ever had as a force for good in our society. With this film, the corruption now within its own body, the media must turn its gaze inward in an attempt to purge itself.
