Tasini Vs. Clinton
I plan on seriously paying attention to Jonathan Tasini and suggest that anyone else who has a problem with Hillary Clinton’s support for the Iraq War do the same. Right now, he’s obviously a dark horse, and I admittedly know little about him, but I’d like that to change. I’m not saying I will definitely vote for him if he manages to get onto the ballot — that depends on what I come to learn about him — but if he can prove himself a true alternative to Clinton, that is a good thing for everyone because she needs to be made accountable. And if she’s not made to answer for herself now, she will be in 2008, when the stakes are even higher.
I have to say, I’m a little disappointed that the Working Families Party apparently endorsed the Senator for re-election with little challenge to her War stance. I guess they couldn’t afford to make a stand against her while they’re trying to move themselves further up the ballot this election. That’s too bad.
I just don’t see how supporting Tasini makes a difference. What message does it send when Hillary wins in a landslide without anti-war voters? And let’s be honest, Tasini isn’t catching on. How is he going to compete in a state the size of New York with as little support as he has?
Our time is better spent electing Eric Massa and beating other Republican Congressmen in New York. If Democrats who want to leave Iraq win in western New York, it’ll send the message that what we’re saying is popular with even conservative voters. And taking control of the House is a real way to stop the war. I’d rather do that than a cast symbolic protest vote against Clinton.
