Brick

Directed by Rian Johnson

An excellent blend of classic film noir and modern indie thriller styles. At certain points it resembles The Third Man in terms of plot — getting involved in the circumstances that caused a loved one to disappear — or Billy Wilder dialogue-wise — crisp, smart, spitfire. If anyone would have told me a few years back that the kid from 3rd Rock From The Sun would turn out to become the kind of actor who could do this and last year’s Mysterious Skin, I’m not sure I would have believed them. A very impressive and thoroughly enjoyable film.
