This Week In Theaters: The Curse Of The Red Menace Edition
After five years of what was surely tedious, yet fun, production, it’s finally here:
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit
Who can resist perhaps the best comedy duo of the last quarter century? Who knows, maybe the last half century? “Who?” I ask. Communists and evil-doers, that’s who. Oh, and probably people who just don’t like animation very much. But mostly commies and such.
And speaking of commies and evil-doers…
Good Night, And Good Luck, the story of Edward R. Murrow standing up to Senator Joseph McCarthy and his hunt for supposed “reds,” sure does look timely. The tagline — “In A Nation Terrorized By Its Own Government, One Man Dared to Tell The Truth” — at least appears to be tailored to resonate with today’s public. And if director/writer/co-star George Clooney’s directorial debut, the under-appreciated Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, is anything to go by, this will likely be fine, intelligent film.
On the more iffy side, there’s In Her Shoes, which, judging by the trailers and in spite of the actors involved — Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz, Shirley MacLaine — looks pretty godawful. But it’s directed by Curtis Hanson, so who knows? Still, it’s probably worth waiting on the word of mouth before deciding to take the plunge.
Of course, you could just go see Two For The Money, but why do that to yourself?
